The Cotton Club – 20 years! SOLD OUT
THIS EVET IS NOW SOLD OUT, THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST!
If places become available they will be published on Facebook.
It is now 20 years since The Cotton Club first played host to the Northampton Swing Dance Society, the brain child of one Jazzy Geof, one-time Ceroc teacher of note in Northampton, who saw the light in 1999 and was converted to Lindy Hop, and later became equally passionate about Balboa.
Jazzy Geof, aka Geof Connolly, was then, and is still today, regarded as one of the best teachers and dancers around, and other teachers of international fame and national championship quality came to Northampton as guest teachers, attracted by Geof’s fame and acclaim, much as moths are attracted to the candle’s flame.
In the early days, Geof was supported by Janet and Linda (think Claudia and Tess) and latterly gave way to Ray & Ali, who together with Martin & Louise, and who both are now part of the Swing Dance MK troupe, first came to Geof’s classes as ordinary participants (would you believe)!
Geof continues as a very real presence at the Cotton Club, exuding charisma and inspiring and entertaining classes from time to time with his impish good humour, and expanding the Lindy Hop horizon with his eclectic choice of music.
So many of us are indebted to Geof for bringing Lindy Hop into our lives and so releasing the inner dancer within ourselves, and for creating in the East Midlands – Northampton, Bedford and Leicester a regional hub of Swing Dancing, that Swing Dance MK has only made bigger and better.
And so, what better way to celebrate this second decade of Northampton Swing (or should that be Northampton Soul?) and the man that made it all happen than by coming to the Cotton Club on Sunday 19th January? It will be special – Geof will be there, as will his music, so invite all your friends & family and together come and enjoy a night of nostalgia mixed with the excitement of the prospect of another 20 years of swing dancing at the Cotton Club.
We also have live music, performed by The Last Chance Rag Time Band, which, if you don’t know it, is a dance band to die for, and of course the many friends of the Cotton Club who will be there to support this event.
If you have any stories to tell, photos/videos to share about Geof, his classes and the dances – we want to see and hear them – I am sure there are many.
